She was very outgoing and wild before her father's death. Now she's serious and quiet most of the time. She has a hard time getting close to people since she has a fear of losing the people she loves.
Ever since she could walk Claire had loved exploring the woods. She spent every available minute there with her father who taught her how to use an axe and how to identify plants. It was just like any other day in District 7, an 8-year-old Claire waited at the edge of the woods for her father to get off his working shift as lumberjack to take her to see a hidden waterfall he'd told her about finding a while back. He never came. She waited until it began getting dark and then walked to her dad's work. All the workers were clustered around something and turned when she walked in. She ran over, a feeling of dread growing in her stomach until she saw her worst fears were confirmed. It was her father. A tree hadn't fallen the way they'd planned and her father had been caught underneath. After that day, she avoided the woods, somehow connecting her father's death with them. Without her father's wages to buy food, Claire had to take out tesserae. She had 14 slips the year she turned 15. The year the picked slip of paper had her name on it.
